There are many benefits to timing your practice, including:
I come from a non-IT, general management background and intend switching to finance post-MBA, which would mean quite a career shift for me.This being the case, is it wise to opt for a 1-yr MBA program (without an internship)?
In general, this would not be my first choice of how to do things but it could work. Are you interested in the finance function within a corporation or financial services?
I am interested in financial services -- that would mean an industry and function shift for me. My prior work experience (of <3 years) can provide transferable soft skills at best to the new profile I intend to get into.
Also, in general how receptive are financial services organizations when it comes to recruiting from non-target schools -- assuming the applicant meets all the criteria?
It is certainly worthwhile to submit your resume to financial services firms if you meet the criteria and attend a school where a given firm has little recruiting presence. You can also network with friends at schools where they do recruit to see if there are any presentations you can attend there.
