THIRD ATTEMPT- CR- ONE WRONG, SC 10 WRONG, RC ALL CORRECT.

650 (Q36,V43)

That's a particularly high Verbal score to get with 10 SC incorrect. Was there a typo?

Perhaps the Q and V scores in your list are back to front?

Yes it was. Apologies.. have corrected it now.

Hi Nilgirio72,

Each CAT/mock is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically should not take more than 1 CAT per week - and your last CAT should be taken about 1 week before Test Day. With a January 28th Test Date, you might be okay taking 2 CATs before then, but you should NOT take any more than that.

I'd like to know a bit more about your current timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Nilgirio72

Usually if there's marginal improvement with lots of study time, then the problem is with your FOCUS. It's simple: if you don't know exactly WHY your score is below expectations in Q and V, then you can't focus your prep and you end up in the very typical 20% efficiency trap (only 20% of the time you spend is contributing towards a score improvement and the remaining 80% is adding no score value).

How do you flip that to 80-90% efficiency of prep? By getting a clear picture of your gaps in Q and V. And a lot of it has to do with Test Taking Skills / Approach. The GMAT is a test of reasoning (not a Math or English test). It rewards you equally for conceptual fundamentals and how you approach the reasoning through each question. Unless you break down your approach to each question type and fix the gaps, you'll never reach your score potential / target.

We offer a FREE 90 minute diagnostic session -- it's LIVE ONLINE with a GMAT Performance Coach. We simulate a real GMAT test and diagnose your gaps in test taking skills along with flagging conceptual gaps. All our clients find it to be incredibly empowering with the clarity it suddenly gives them around why they're falling short on test day.

Hi everyone..
my last ditch effort to garner some guidance.
Given 3 mock tests. 2 of OG, 01 of e-gmat. Scores were as follows
1. 640 (V34,Q44)
2. 630 (V33,Q44)
3. 650 (V36,V43)

I GAVE THE FIRST TWO EXAMS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO TACKLE THE EXAMS. JUST READ THROUGH THE OG, SOLVED A FEW QUESTIONS AND ATTEMPTED IT. (What a waste, i know)

3rd one was after three months of on/off prep.

Here is the issue,
VERBAL-
In 2nd attempt- SC TWO WRONG, CR 08 WRONG, RC-06 WRONG, so i thought my CR was weak.
THIRD ATTEMPT- CR- ONE WRONG, SC 10 WRONG, RC ALL CORRECT.
SO WHEN I AM DOING WELL IN ONE SUB PART, I AM MESSING UP IN THE OTHER.

QUANT- 13 questions wrong. 06 OUT OF THE FIRST 10 WRONG-MOST OF THEM WERE EASY/MED difficulty. I seem to get all hard/ hard-med questions right and all easy questions wrong. On review, i realised that only 03 questions i didnt know how to solve, another 04 i had some doubt and solved them in under 3 mins each. But 06-07 questions on reading again, i solved in under 30 secs.

Have an exam scheduled on 28 Jan 21. Plan to do lots of mock tests till then. One almost everyday.

Where am i going wrong
reading too fast, skipping minor details, careless mistakes.
Please help

Thanks in advance

That's great news, Nilgirio72. It's nice to see that you were able to take the ideas you got and make your goal score happen.
