I've taken four practice tests over the last several weeks, but there is a large gap between the Veritas practice tests and the GMATPrep practice tests that has me worried. I took all four tests under exam conditions (the fourth one was the closest - I took it in a library at the same time of day as my real test). I studied between the practice tests, but certainly nothing that would cause my score to increase so much. My scores were:
10/28 - 620 (Q40 V35) - Veritas
11/04 - 630 (Q39 V38) - Veritas
11/10 - 710 (Q42 V47) - GMATPrep (old version)
11/17 - 730 (Q46 V44) - GMATPrep (new version)
I've read that the GMATPrep scores are the most accurate, but I haven't seen anyone else post with a gap this large, so I'm worried something might be wrong. I take the test on December 1st, and my goal is a 690, but obviously I would like a 700+ score. Could something be wrong with either of the practice tests? Is it possible GMATPrep is overlooking a weakness that will hurt me on test day? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi MAcc95,
Veritas Mock tests are definitely a bit more tougher than the GMATPREP's or even the actual GMAT (they are great for practice though) so please do not worry too much about them. You should only
trust the official GMATPREP mocks. You have a phenomenal score in verbal in both your official mocks so you seem to be well prepared for verbal. I think you need to focus a bit more on Quant as there is some room for improvement there.
You can try out the Math revolution or
TTP course as they are both phenomenal and cover the entire syllabus really well. Plus they have great reviews on GMATCLUB. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in Quant; a subscription to
GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.
Further taking multiple mocks might help. I would encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP EP 1 and EP 2 as they are the most representative tests for your real GMAT.
Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practice tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.
Lastly I would also encourage you to purchase the latest version of OG and the Quant review for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.
