11 Managers (including 1 VP and 1 President). We need to form a team of 5 where the president and VP do not serve on the same team
My approach:
5 spots..
For the first spot we have 2 choices (VP or P) = 2
For the second spot on we have 11-2 = 9 people
so 2*(9*8*7*6)/4! = 252
however OA is Total Choices - Where they would serve together which is 462-84 = 378
can someone please help explain why my method is incorrect?

Where they would serve together = 3C9.
And substraction results in 378 like you said.
Your calculation assumes that either the president or the VP MUST be on the team, and this is not stated in the question.
