P = 5d/min

1st minute
12 J kill 12*10 = 120 droids

2nd minute
8J + 4P kill 8*10 + 4*5 = 100 droids

3rd minute
4J + 8P kill 4*10 + 8*5 = 80 droids

Total killed in 3 minutes = 120 + 100 + 80 = 300 droids
Overall droids = 720
Remaining after 3 minutes = 720 - 300 = 420 droids

Now we only have 12 p
In 1-minute, 12p kill = 12*5 = 60 droids

For 420 droids time needed = 420/60 = 7 minutes

Jedi destroys 10 droids per minute
Padawans destroy 5 droids per minute

After minute 1
Number of jedi = 12
number of padawans = 0
destruction = 12*10 =120

after minute 2,
number of jedi = 8
number of padawan = 4
destruction = 8*10+4*5=100

after minute 3,
number of jedi = 4
number of padawan = 8
destruction = 4*10+8*5 = 80

after minute 4
number of jedi = 0
number of padawan = 12
destruction = 12*5 = 60

for the first 3 minutes, destruction = 120+100+80=300
total destroyed = 720
droids destroyed by padawans after minute 3 = 720-300 = 420
droids destroed per minute by padawans alone after minute3 = 60
time required = 420/60 = 7

total: 120 droids

2nd minute:
8 jedi: 8*10=80 droids
4 padawan: 4*5=20 droids
total: 100 droids

3rd minute:
4 jedi: 4*10=40 droids
8 padawan: 8*5=40 droids
total: 80 droids

4th minute:
12 padawan: 12*5=60 droids
total: 60 droids

120+100+80+60n=720
300+60n=720

Rate of 1 Jedi: 10 droids/ min
Rate of 12 Jedi: 120 droids/min

Rate of 1 Padawan: 10/2 = 5 droids/min

Total Droids destroyed in the battle = 720

After 1st min (12 Jedi) = 120 droids destroyed
2nd min (8 Jedi+4 Padawan) = 80 + 20 = 100 droids
3rd min (4 Jedi + 8 Padawan) = 40 + 40 = 80 droids
After 4th min, all 12 Padawans will continue fighting to destroy the remaining 720 - 300 = 420 droids

Rate of 12 Padawans = 12x5 = 60 droids/min
Hence, the time it would take 12 Padawans to destroy 420 droids => 420/60 = 7 mins

In the first, second and third minute there are Jedi and Padawans.
From the fourth minute there is only Padawans.
Jedi can destroy 10 droids per minute and Padawans 5 droids per minute.

12*10 + (8*10+4*5) + (4*10+8*5) = 120 + 100 + 80 = 300

Remaining 720-300=420 drois.

420/(12*5) = 420/60 = 7 minutes

If we count the droids destoyed accordung to the indormations given in the text we can find the following:
1 minute: 120 droids destroyed (12*10)
2 minute: 100 (8*10 + 4*5)
3 minute: 80 (4*10 + 8*5)
4 minute: 60 (12*5)
And so on until the total sum of droids destoyed reaches 720. So: 120+100+80+60=360 in 4 minutes which means other 360 are left to be destroyed. 360/60 per minute equals minutes. To conclude: 4 + 6= 10 minutes total.
