Hi,
I have just 15 days to go for my GMAT. My mock test scores are
GMAT Prep 1 - 720 (Q50, V37)
GMAT Prep 2 - 730 (Q50, V38)
Kaplan free test - 700 (Q51, V35)
While practicing questions (both official guide questions and questions from other sources) in the GMATClub, I am getting 60-70% accuracy in 600-700 level questions and 45-50% accuracy in 700 level questions.
I wanted to know what should be my strategy now to improve my Verbal score? Also, should I focus more on 700 level questions now or should I go for the 600-700 level questions and try to increase the accuracy?
Hi SubhamRanjan99,
Your mock scores suggest that you have a fairly good chance of scoring 700 or above in the actual test. And the Quant and Verbal scores are more or less consistent. So, you can expect a similar score in the actual test. The only thing to do right now is to fine tune your Verbal. Let me help you with the same.
How to improve your Verbal score?
To decide whether to focus more on 700 level questions or 600-700 level questions, it's important for you to understand the GMAT algorithm. GMAT is an adaptive test which means for the algorithm to serve you 700 level questions, you need to ace the 600-700 level questions. If you falter in 600-700 level questions, the algorithm might serve you easier questions, which might affect your chances of scoring 700.
So, the right thing to do is to understand the reason behind faltering in 600-700 level questions. I feel that you have a fairly good knowledge of the concepts. It's just that you are struggling with the application of concepts of a particular module.
I suggest you to spend more time on analyzing the solutions of the questions in which you seem to falter. By analyzing, I mean,
- go through each step of the solution
- compare your approach with the right one
- identify the exact step at which you made the mistake
- introspect what made you choose the wrong decision
- and finally learn the right approach
Once you are clear with the approach, the process of solving remains the same for all the questions irrespective of the difficulty level. So, I suggest you to focus more on the process than on practicing questions. You might find the recording below helpful.
I can help you in a much better way if you can give me a little more background about your GMAT Prep. The information can include details such as:
- your weak areas in Verbal
- your approach of solving questions for each module in Verbal
- the resources you are using right now
Answers to these questions will help me guide you in a better way. As you have just 15 days of time for your GMAT, I suggest that we get in touch over a call, have a detailed discussion and quickly come up with a plan of action. You can use the link below to get in touch with me.
