2(2^x) when you simplify this = 2^x+1 how in the world do [#permalink]

2(2^x)

when you simplify this = 2^x+1

how in the world do you come up with the simplified answer?

can someone break it down for me?

Note that 2^x times 2 is the same as adding one to the exponent. IE: 2^3 * 2 = 8 * 2 = 16 = 2^4.

It is simple.

you have given 2(2^x)

= 2^1(2^x)
= 2^1 * 2^x
= 2^(1 + x)
= 2^x+1 But make sure with your interpretation.
