On an average candidates spend 2-3 months in their GMAT preparation. You may start now with a good prep-provider like TTP (live course or self study as per your convenience, I've taken the self study version, it was wonderful. (Anyway, take a 5 day trial yourself to decide).

Simultaneously prepare other parameters of your application. You've a tight deadline but remember many have done this before, and you too can do it.

All the best for your applications.

Hi Scott,

So I just took a practice test without any preparation and got a score of 520 (Q62 V52 DI47). I know this is below average result. So what do you think are my chances to get to my target (700-710) by mid december with a full-time prep?

Thanks again for your answer.

Hi ZigZag7,

Your plan could work, but it really depends on your current GMAT score. Do you have a baseline score? If not, could you take a practice test to see where you are at?

Hi,

Thank you for the tips and for the encouragement.

So I took a mock exam earlier today and got 520 (Q62 V52 DI47). Clearly not great but I got the feeling solid preparation I could do a lot better. The biggest challenge for me was timing as I was taking too long to answer. Hopefully when I start prepping and getting to solve more and more questions solve that issue.

And I'll keep in mind what you said, make sure to get the foundations right and build from there.

I'll give it my best over the next 2 months and make the most of the free time I have as I'm out of work until January.

Hi,
I'm not a GMAT expert, but I wanted to share some thoughts that might help.
Make sure your preparation doesn't backfire due to time pressure. Deadlines can make you feel rushed, and you might end up skipping over the basics. It's really important to give yourself ample time to build solid fundamentals first.
Take a mock exam — if you're scoring above 550, two months might be enough to identify and work on your gaps in order to reach your target score. But even if your score isn’t where you want it to be right now, don’t get discouraged. Do your best and give the exam a shot.
You were planning to apply next year anyway, so use these two months to make as much progress as you can. A guided GMAT course can definitely help — consider getting a 12-month subscription. That way, even if you don’t hit your desired score this time, you’ll have the resources to continue preparing and come back stronger.
All the best with your preparation!

Thanks for this. I'll take the trial and see. I'll certainly go with self study, that's what suits me best.

Since I will not be working until January, I'll give it my best and see how it goes.

Needed to hear that and I'll keep reminding it to myself throughout.

Thanks a lot.

There is no definitive answer to this question. I would suggest that if you really have some colleges in mind and have so much time in your hands - then who's stopping you?

Also - even if you are not able to make it in time for applications for R2 2025- this plan might push you to get a great score on GMAT - which makes your application process way easier if you go for it in R1 2026. You always miss the shots you dont take buddy.

All the best!!!
