Hello GMAT Club
I have been preparing for the GMAT for about two months now, and have scheduled my exam for exactly two weeks from today.
I started my prep at a 610 Manhattan CAT without any studying, and proceeded to prep using a combination of
Target Test Prep and some Manhattan material for Quant (mostly SC). I will say that my Verbal Studying hasn’t been too structured, especially with respect to RC and CR.
I took my first GMAT Prep Official Practice Exam last weekend and scored a 680 (Q49, V33). Verbal was lower than expected because I had time management issues and essentially skimmed & guessed the last 8 questions, and got seven of those last eight incorrect.
I took my second Official Practice yesterday and received a 710 (Q47, V40). My strategy did not really change aside from working quicker and limiting my time spent per question, and I scored in line with my expectations for verbal (started with V36 as a base and improved since).
Now, on exam day I would like to attain a score that reflects my best prior performance for Quant and Verbal (Q49, V40), at the very least. If I can boost either, great.
What should I focus on for these next two weeks? What should my approach be? OG Problems And Problem Strategy, or should I look at content/theory as well?
For Quant - I generally miss 1-2 questions due to material/topics I haven’t covered YET (Probability, combinations/permutations, sequences), which I plan to cover this week. I also miss 1-2 questions from material I practiced much earlier and need a refresh on (Number Properties, work), which I will also be focused on. There are some tough data sufficiency questions as well - I hear manhattan Advanced Quant has good strategy for DS, anyone recommend? I also haven’t touched any OG Quant Questions (Been using Target only), so was thinking of hitting those as well.
For verbal - I honestly haven’t done a thorough diagnostic on weak areas vs strengths, but I would say that everything is relatively equal. SC was weakest to start, but I have practiced it the most, and now it’s on equal footing with the other sections. Perhaps CR is the most difficult, and I tend to spend the most time on these problems, especially the 700-800 level ones. I am about to finish the verbal questions from the OG, repeat all questions that I answered incorrectly, then purchase/complete the OG Verbal Edition Questions.
So I’m thinking of the following:
Quant:
- Complete Remaining Quant Topics
- Quant OG Questions
- Manhattan Advanced Quant for DS Strategy
Verbal:
- Finish OG Questions and repeat incorrect answers (generally about 20% incorrect for each topic)
- OG Verbal Edition Questions
- GMATNinja for Strategy
How does this look? Anything that I should add, or leave out, or focus on more or less. And how about question mechanics/strategy? Any good resources that break this down simple and effectively? Especially for verbal.
Thank you very much!!!!
