I totally agree with #1 and #2; however just my two cents - off late Booth has really tried to get away from the “Finance” reputation and is doing pretty well in other areas as well. I’m into automotive sector and as well want to switch to Product Management in the long run.

Thank you for the wishes :)

Appreciate your inputs on Booth. I will spend some time to gather more information as I don't want to miss out on a good school. Targeting best schools is one thing, getting into one is another. I am still not sure if my profile has what it takes to break into these programs. Still waiting for feedback from experts here.

Hi mba8yrs,

Beginning your evaluation with your academic background, first and foremost, you have completed your bachelors from IIT and masters from Ohio State University, both of which are well-recognized educational institutes in their respective countries that acts as an added bonus in your profile. Moreover, you have got an impressive GPA score of 8.5 in your bachelors and 3.2 in your masters program. Additionally, your GRE score of 320 definitely gives an upper edge to your profile and increases your chances of admission in the top B-schools. All in all, these numbers showcase your strong hold in academics.

Talking about your work experience, you have an impressive duration of 12 years in the professional field which will totally work in your favour for the simple fact that one needs to have at least 4-5 years of work experience when applying for an MBA program. Though these experiences are praise-worthy, nonetheless, you will be competing against applicants who have worked in the big four companies like KPMG, EY, DELOITTE and PWC, and so you need to set yourself at par with them by talking about, why you chose this company, what kind of projects you undertook, what were your inputs and what skills you developed. This will also showcase how you are voyaging on a path towards your goal while portraying your dedication and consistency.

Talking about your extracurricular activities, which is equally important as it showcases a holistically developed profile, unfortunately, you have not mentioned any details. However, to give you a brief idea of how to go about with this, you can maybe talk about certain certifications you undertook and any NGO or volunteering activities that you were involved in the past and in the present to show how even after 12 years of your formal education, you are still constantly striving and upscaling your soft skills. Furthermore, since your last major educational experience was in the masters program at Ohio State, you can maybe mention some extracurricular activities you were part of there, by elaborating on the clubs and associations you were involved in, the teams you led and the duties you performed. These varied skills can thus contribute towards you being a great future leader which would automatically impress the adcoms.
Now coming to the schools that you are targeting, they all come under the dream category which generally means a 40-50% chance of acceptance.

All things considered, you need to back your profile with a very strong application which consists of your Essay, Lor and Resume as they carry 30% of an impact on your chances of bagging an admit in any of these top B-schools. Moreover, it is always advised to hedge your bets wisely and target a good mix of dream and competitive schools.

Having said that, if you want to know more about other top B-schools that you can target, you can definitely try out our FREE Profile Evaluation service which will give you a more accurate and personalized suggestion based on your inputs. Click on the link below to avail this service:
