Is it really that difficult? Should be fairly easy to achieve. Just be concise. No fluff.

Yes, if I try to answer the why at the decision points, it overruns the word limits.

One essential skill in for success is to be able to make your arguement is a concise manner. Just image if you were writing an e-mail to the CEO or doing an executive summary, you need to know what to leave out and what to keep in. The essay is a good exercise for that.

Unless Haas changed their app from last year there's no way around it--the boxes will not let you enter more words than the limit allows. As asimov said, it's all about making your point concisely. Everyone else is dealing with the same limit, so it'll be a matter of how effectively you use those 250 words.
