Hi folks, kinda bored at work on thanksgiving and starting to put together my applications so thought I'd put my stats out here for evaluation/advice.
GPA: 3.6 at top state school (UT,UMICH, UVA etc)
Test scores: 165Q/166V GRE which is equivalent to a 730 GMAT according to ETS and a couple points above the GRE average at HSW.
Work experience: 7 years active duty US Army. Infantry Officer, did all the schools, Ranger, airborne etc. Consistently rated in the top 1-2 of 20-30 on all my evaluations. Most recent report I was ranked #1 of 35 Commanders. Both of my recommenders I'm confident will give me glowing reports, working on the packet for them currently. Planning to apply R2.
Unique story: I also beat cancer a couple years ago which might help mitigate the fact that I'm a little older (30) and why I stayed in 7 years. It had a tremendous impact on me obviously and I plan to weave that into a compelling story about why I want to pursue a career in healthcare.
Anyways I'm planning on applying to HWS, Booth, Duke, and either Kellogg or Berkeley. My chances at GSB I know are very low, but it's my dream school and I understand it's like buying a lottery ticket. Chances at HBS maybe not much better but I'm hoping if I put together a great app with a compelling story that might at least get me an interview. I've been told I might be competitive at W and I know they have a great healthcare specialty major as does Duke so maybe I'll get some love there.
Am I aiming too high here, or does anyone have any general advice as I start my applications? Thanks!
