Hello
I am a mechanical engineer working with a top automotive firm in India. Started preparing for GMAT with E-GMAT almost 3 years ago. Got a 580 in my diagonstic mock and decided to work with E-GMAT. Spent almost one year on the course and only reached a 650 in my mocks. Was not able to cross the 650-660 threshold. Did not like the mentoring available with e-gmat and hence decided to change the mentor and course.
Enrolled myself into
gmatwhiz's program. Explained them the entire problem about inconsistent scores and my experience with e-gmat. Based on this call, they decided to assign a mentor who would be actively involved in my journey. Started working with Piyush Beriwala on my gmatprep. I remember connecting with him on live calls and sharing my screen while solving problems. He wanted to see my approach. based on these discussions, he kept giving feedback and I started incorporating them. Bit by bit, saw improvement and started grasping verbal concepts much better. My accuracy improved but still got stuck at 680 range.
Towards the end, decided to take mocks. Exhausted all
GMATWHIZ mocks, manhattan mocks and offical mba.com mocks. Over the course of 1 year, finally started scoring close to 690-700. Never crossed 720 in my mocks.
Decided to give the official exam a shot. Got a 660 (Q49 V33). Devastated. Verbal was terrible. Due to the adaptive nature of the exam, I screwed the first few questions, and I was never able to recover from that trough. Within 15 days, gave my second attempt and got a 710 (Q49 V37).
Decided to take one more attempt and improve it further. On the third attempt, came back to a 660. Decided to stop giving more exams since I had exhausted a lot of funds into paying for exams and coaching. Started working with Piyush (
Gmatwhiz) on my ISB application. Spent upwards of 2 months on application and essays. Spent another 2 months on Interview prep with Piyush. His support and guidance helped alot with letting me see my own strenghts in a new light. New perspectives.
Finally, after 3-4 years of struggle, got an admit from ISB. Very basic profile. I dont see myself as a fancy MBB or startup profile and yet I got an admit. In the end, I think what matters more is your clarity of thought, and indications of having leadership skills. Everyone can do it, as long as you believe in yourself, your achievements and your work experience.
