GMAT Prep uses the same scoring algorithm as the actual GMAT. If you got ONLY 3 wrong and it gave you a 30, that doesn't make much sense. But when I got 3 wrong, I had 47. With 5 wrong, it was around 44-45. With 8 wrong it was 40-42, assuming that all the answers are decently spread out, and there's no more than 2 wrong in a row. Once again, this is a really vague sampling and it could have just been me, because #correct doesn't correlate with the score directly. The position of these incorrect answers in the overall framework of things, along with the difficulty of the questions matter a lot more.
