hey deepti, 30 is definetly not too old for part-time or EMBA programs. But I heard these days top schools prefer younger candidates for full-time programs. I am 30 yrs of age as well, so do not make me feel bad. Also my dream is product management career as well.
I am considering EMBA not part-time programs. Why do you think EMBA is for higher level management only?

The average age of the top American full time MBA is gradually declining in the recent years and now it is about 27-28 AFAIK. But at 30 you are still in the acceptable range.

European schools have greater average age (29-30) for full time MBA, but you should also have a work experience of at least 4-5 years. You have a perfect average age for European schools.

The problem with the EMBA is that this type of program is tailored for the candidates who are already on the good career path. EMBA helps you to skip several steps on career ladder but not the first ones. Typically, it is for someone who reached a ceiling in his functional progression (so, he is a highly qualified but narrow specialist) and he is ready to switch for managerial position but lacks managerial knowledge and experience. That's why a large number of EMBA students are financed by their companies, and that's why the EMBAs are much more expensive than the corresponding full time MBAs.

By the way, I am 36 and I still think that I have my chances to make a full time program ;)

looks like the average age is trending downwards for mba students. i am applying this year for fall 2011. i am 30 and will be 30 as well when fall 2011 starts. am i too old for a full-time mba? will it affect my application negatively?
i work as an engineer with stady promotions. but, i don't think an EMBA is for me since i am not in the management side. i want a mba to get into product management.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'll be turning 30 shortly after starting in Fall 2011 so wondered the same thing. Most top schools have an average age in the 27-29 realm so puts me (and you) just outside the sweet spot but not far from it.

I think the only top 10 school that had a much lower average age was HBS. And for HBS, I've wondered how they will accommodate for the first batch of 2+2's next Fall. Either it will pull the average lower or they will compensate by accepting a few more older candidates. I'm hoping for the latter. :)
