Hey All,
I am planning to apply for MBA programs this fall and wanted some advice on whether there is much value in giving the GMAT exam again vs submitting my GRE Scores.
Context: I have a Masters in Engineering from Cornell (Class of 2019) and as a pre-requisite for this exam, I gave the GRE and did very well. I got a 338/340 with 169Q and 169V. Fast forward 2 years and my scores are valid for my MBA applications this fall.
Since I had some spare time and have traditionally done well on standardized tests, I worked towards giving the GMAT exam as well to further boost my application for MBA programs this fall. However, I got a 700 (45Q, 42V) in my first attempt (late April) after about 3 months of preparation and just got a 710 today on my 2nd attempt (48Q, 40V).
I am obviously quite tired/dejected at this point and given how strong my GRE score is, think it would be sufficient to submit the GRE? On the other hand, having scored an average of 750-770 on my 6 OG practice exams I am also somewhat tempted to give the GMAT a 3rd time and see what happens.
This forum has been very helpful throughout my GMAT preparation process so would love your advice/thoughts/comments on the following 2 Questions:
1) Any thoughts on whether top MBA programs such as HBS/GSB would consider the 338 GRE strong enough OR do you guys feel the lack of GMAT would be a drawback/I should work harder and give it one last shot at the GMAT? I read on a few forums that MBA programs have a slight (internal) bias/preference for folks who did GMAT since that test was made exclusively for MBA and shows more focus? Just wanted to be sure that if I don't submit a GMAT and use my GRE score from my prior CS Masters an admissions officer wouldn't view that as me being lazy?
2) Any thoughts on giving the GMAT a 3rd time or do you think that is a waste@? Perhaps with less intense preparation and more of clear mind (I have already completed 11 practice exams, and all of the the Magoosh, Manhattan Prep Official Guide content). Maybe I just went overboard before the first 2 exams?

Hello, shaheb218. Let me preface this post by saying that I am not affiliated with mbaMission. I am simply a regular GMAT Clubber who happened upon your post and took an interest in it. It will be interesting to see what someone from an admissions consulting background has to say. For my part, I would submit the GRE® score, hands down. A 338 is a fantastic composite score, and an evenly balanced 338 even better. I find it hard to believe that the submission of such a test score would be held against you in any way, given that 22 percent of the entering class at HBS and 25 percent of the entering class at GSB submitted GRE® scores, not to mention that the latter explicitly states on its website that "We have no preference between GMAT and GRE exams." (Why would either school? Top applicants are virtually guaranteed to apply year after year, so the school could use some of the many higher test scores to offset a few of the lower ones.) If you want to put your best foot forward, go with the standout score, not something slightly below average. Should you take the GMAT™ again in hopes of earning a more competitive score? That is a personal decision, but one that I would make not because I felt a little nervous that another perfectly valid test score might be frowned upon.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck. I think you have your bases covered regarding standardized testing, and I know that coming from a reputable undergraduate program will help your chances of gaining admission, but there are other factors to consider that I have no insight into (e.g., ethnicity, work experience). All I can say is that I hope you get more feedback.
