D for me
A) suddenly reverts to present tense when this must really be in past form
B) "knows" does not properly refer to "management and labor"
C) who does "they" refer to?
D) properly talks about futurity in the past with "would"
E) very convoluted and introduces a participial phrase which is also a clause and this is awfully wrong
Answer is A.
reason given by book:
Choice A is correct. The original statement is correct, while each of the answer choices contain errors in verb tense or subject/verb agreement.
I kind of did not like the double repetition of "would" in D.
Ex: I would have done it if it helped me --> would + conditional clause
Ex: I would have done it if it would have helped me --> I believe double use of would is wrong.
I think A is right and I agree with OA. This has to do indeed with subjunctive mood - giving a command "said that it must".
This was a tricky one.
