Sorry to open a new thread .. but dont know why I am getting this wrong: m05-q12-73440.html
4% of population of country L has military experience and supports a war against Country G. If 20% of those who support the war have no military experience what percentage of the country's population actually supports war against G?
(A) 5% (B) 7.5% (C) 10% (D) 12.5% (E) 15%
I did it this way: Total Population = 1000 Support war -- 40 --> Don't support war -- 960 So 40 + 2% of 960 should give us the answer i.e. 23.2% .. Am i wrong somewhere?

You need to calculate percentage of people who support war. Why are you adding 2% of the people not supporting war to 40 ?
Since 20% of the population who supports war doesn't have military experience , 80% of the people supporting war does have military experience.
So 40 = 80% of the people supporting war Total no of people supporting war will be (40/0.8) 50 and hence 5%

Here 40 are not the only ones supporting war, instead these are people who have military experience also in addition to support war. Now what is given is "20% of those who support the war have no military experience" hence there are "80% of those who support the war have military experience" so, .8x = 40 where x is people who supports war x = 50 which is 5% hence A.
