430 on my first diagnostic Test

GMAT taking Gurus.

I got 430 on my first diagnostic test. This is the first time I have ever taken a test.
Do you think I can improve my scores if I work towards it???

by the time I did 20 in quant. My time started running out.

by the time I did 24 in my verbal, Time started running.

Basically I was just short of time.

Poor strategy I guess.

Here is the break up

Quant:

Right: 17, Wrong:13, unanswered:7 , Correct: 46% , Unanswered: 19%

Verbal:

Right: 21, Wrong:18, unanswered:2 , Correct: 51% , Unanswered: 5%

buy OG11 - study all the basic concepts - then just practice your timing.

With hard work, plenty of people have improved their scores drastically.

It sounds like you took that test too early. Diagnostic tests, without initial preparation, are confidence killers. Maybe you should start with the OG, do the easier questions first without timing, take the time to understand the explanations even for those questions you anwered correctly. After building up some confidence, take another timed CAT test. You should see a significant improvement.

Edit: if I may use a bad analogy (not about cars though!), it is like learning to play the guitar. First you learn the basic chords and some simple tunes. You learn to play them properly and without errors. Only then you can start trying to play fast.
