I started studying for the GMAT a little less than two months ago took here are my scores below:

Practice GMAT #1 36 31 550
Practice GMAT #2 31 29 500
Is it common to have swings like this both in math and verbal?
I mean on the last test I bombed missed about 60% of RC and I will work on that but scored in the 75% range on SC and CR.
Math is an challenge for me and I clearly got smoked on the last test, I am confident that I can score in 80-90% in verbal. Any suggestions for the math portion so I can try to hit my goal of 650?
I'm pretty weak in number properties, exponents, I feel like I don't see some of the manipulations most people do or I take a different route get stuck then I end up guessing between two or three via logic.
Any suggestions help, much appreciated.

You are scoring around 500. A 50 point swing in the practice tests is common from day to day. What you will score on any given day depends on a ton of factors so don't fret about it.
If you are weak in certain areas, you need to work on them. There is no way around. Get a book of number properties and go through it a couple of times. Once you are familiar with the concepts, they will be easier to recall. Also, you will need to practice lots of questions to be able to manipulate the question and get it to the desired form. If you get stuck on a question, check out the explanation, then try to solve on your own and then try some more similar questions to practice. Check out the different methods people use to solve the same question. As I said, there is no shortcut. Hard work is required to improve. (Once your concepts are clear, then you will see that there are tons of shortcuts to solve most questions in less than a minute.)
