Consider checking out a gmat scoring grid, so you know which target section scores get you to where you want to get most easily.

A 720-740 score requires a good performance on both sections of the GMAT. There is a difference between getting a Q50 V38 and a Q47 V42.

Hello Lulua,

Welcome to the GMAT Club. It is one of the great platforms to get information about the GMAT official test, Study plan, Section wise instructions, etc.

Your current GMAT mock score is shaky. You can schedule a Free counseling(https://calendly.com/mathrevolution/1-on-1-session) session for 20 mins with one of our experts to have detailed advice on your current study plans.

A couple of things that can be a noticeable barrier to your scores would be some or all of the below.

• Not detailed knowledge of GMAT Math pattern and Question types
• Inefficiency by using time-consuming Conventional method to tackle DS and PS questions still
• No expert support (maybe) who can tutor, analyze, and guide you during your learning
• Lack of many updated questions and practice in the recent exam trend
• Not well aligned with time to solve questions.

Precisely, there has to be one end-to-end solution encompassing all the points mentioned above. You can try our free diagnostic test https://www.mathrevolution.com/diagnostic/dtExamMember and receive a comprehensive study guide by topic. This test will clearly help you understand your weak areas.

Your study plan will now change as you are already ready with the vital concepts and their application. The diagnostic test report will give us detailed insight into various topics and your performance. After an in-depth analysis, we will draw out the category of the topics in which you are already better and those where you need more improvement. Also, we will be able to compare your performance while solving the PS and DS questions.

Also, make a note of various possible combinations to achieve a score of 700+. The possible scores will help you track your performance after taking the mock or practice test. It will also help you maintain balance in both the sections, and you will always be in a great position to allot the study hours to a specific area accordingly.

We recommend that you must learn the Variable Approach for solving DS questions and the IVY approach for solving PS questions in order to improve your accuracy and save time while solving the question types.

These approaches are the robust self-designed time-saving techniques that will help you learn efficiently, thus raising your score in the quick nick of time.

Register with MathRevolution https://www.mathrevolution.com/member/signup to get access to our 7-days on-demand course for free trial lessons.

700+ level questions https://www.mathrevolution.com/gmat/questionbank are separately available, too. Start with the learning of the concepts. Make a habit of taking notes during the initial learning of the concepts.

After registering, you will have access to the practice section. Initially, try solving the DS and/or PS questions from very easy and easy category questions on the topic(s) you have learned. You may also connect with one of our experts to get one of the best tutoring supports, which will help understand the topic(s) and solve questions and learn how to manage time and accuracy.

Adding to the same, mastery of the Variable Approach to solve DS questions and the IVY approach to solve PS questions would add a feather to the cap. Below is the useful link we will recommend you to visit on GMAT club to experience the power of DS and IVY approaches.

Lulua
Hello everyone,
Hello Gmat gods,

I started to study for the exam in the end of Sep and I did my first (Manhattan) Mock-test today.
Unfortunately, I only scored 520. Originally, my idea was to write my Gmat exam on the 2nd of Dez and apply in Jan for the M7 unis, but with my current level, I can pretty much forget any application. Do not get me wrong - I am motivated to master the test, but I doubt regarding the timeline!

I would love, if you guys can help me to bring some structure to my studies, brush me up with potential ideas or books.
I am open for any suggestion/ recommendation.

Regarding the typ of resources recommendation, I am good with courses & books, articles. Back then in school, I never had a private teacher; therefore, I am not sure whether those will help me now, but I am open for it as well in case, if you have someone specific in mind.

About me:
- non-native English speaker

Target: 720 - 740

Mock-up score:
- 520
- Quant 40
- Verbal 21 (SC < RC < IC)

Study material:
- Manhatten Foundation Series Math / Verbal
- Manhatten All the Verbal/ All the Quant
- OG first 100 quant, around 30 rc, ic, sc each

Except:
- Manhatten Atlas Online Questioners

If I reflect my studies, I actually was better in verbal than in quant. That is why, I am kind of shocked that I scored the other way around - beside the low score. In addition, I had to guess around 10 questions in my verbal part.

Please do not hesitate to ask further questions in order to assess my situation. I am happy provide you with further info, so we can bolster my studies.

I am looking forward to hear from you!

Lulua

Hi Lulua,

Thanks for sharing the details. Let me share some inputs from my experience. The key to effective preparation lies in how you approach your prep. It is a good thing that you've realized that the current approach isn't quite effective. Most people come to this realization pretty late and end up losing a lot of precious time. Let me tell you how you should structure your preparation.

Step 1: Strategize properly. This is an important step and most people either don't spend enough time on it or do it the wrong way. Let me explain this step.

First thing you need to do is understand your strengths and weaknesses then accordingly break down the target score to sectional targets. For example, if you're very comfortable with one section, let's say Verbal your target should be to maximise your performance there and get a decent score in Quant. However, if you don't think you're really good in one section then it is wise to have a balanced target.

Step 2: Create the right order of learning various concepts. Ideally, you should organize the various Quant concepts in the right order starting from the basics and then Intermediate and finally advanced concepts. Similar approach has to be followed for Verbal. Ensure that you learn in the right order otherwise learning won't be effective.

Step 3: After organizing topics in the right order, pick up each topic (a topic is Prime nos. for example) one-by-one and do 3 things - 1. Learn concepts 2. Learn Strategies to apply these questions on GMAT styled questions and 3. Practice Questions. Make sure you do not miss the 2nd thing and jump to 3 directly after learning concepts.

Step 4: Once you've mastered individual topics, move on to fine-tuning phase in which you identify weak areas and work on them specifically while giving enough time to overall practice as well.

Step 1 and Step 2 mentioned above are very important and many people don't do it methodically. So, do focus on these steps. Feel free to get in touch if you have any other questions for me.

As GMAT is an adaptive test, I suggest you to go with an online course as it helps you take adaptive quizzes and provides you all the content on a single platform. The best way to choose an online course is to check out the free trials of the courses out there and then choose the one which suits you the most. But make sure to choose the course which can help you with not only the concepts but also the application of concepts. And it would be even better if the course can help you with the study plan as it will help you be clear of what to study on any given day. You can check out the free trial of GMATWhiz and take a decision. It is a personalized course that comes with an integrated study plan and adapts the content in real-time on basis of your performance.

Here’s a link to our free trial – https://learn.gmatwhiz.com/?page=signup

And I can definitely help you with the study strategy. GMAT is a test which focuses on application of concepts. So, you need to make sure that you learn not only the concepts but also their application. Please schedule a call with me using the link below so that I can guide you in a better way.
