Hello,
I started studying for gmat at beginning of August.I took 3 mock tests since. Here are my scores
13 August :
MGMAT mock 1- 560 Q36 V31
29 August:
MGMAT mock 2-560 Q37 V30
9 September: GMATprep's test 1 : 680 Q50 V31
I was shocked when I see 680 yesterday because I haven't really been studying quantitative for a while.I was focusing on verbal because I want to take my 30 to 40, but it seems I haven't progressed at all.
Is quantitative questions on real exam is as easy as Gmatprep's ? Because
MGMAT's quantitative is very hard for me,I can't even see the last 10 questions mostly, hence the scores 36 & 37. Also, do you think I can take my verbal from 30 to 40 in 1.5 months? What do you think I should do?
Thanks.
Hi eceh00,
This is a pretty interesting case. But your verbal score is consistent.
Were you able to get the answers right using the methodical process or were there any guesses in between? The answer to this should ideally solve the puzzle. Having said that, the
MGMAT quant is bit tougher than the official one's. So, take another official mock and see if the quant score is consistent or not.
To improve your verbal score to a 40, you need to have a strong conceptual understanding and use the right methodologies to solve questions. Let me help give you a brief understanding of the right methodology from SC perspective.
There is a common misconception that knowing grammatical rules will help you solve SC questions. But SC questions on GMAT test your ability to convey the intended meaning without any ambiguity. So, it is important to approach SC questions from a meaning stand-point. Because you will often come across answer choices which are grammatically correct and convey a logical meaning but are indeed incorrect. So, it is important to understand the intended meaning the original sentence is trying to convey and then eliminate choices which do not convey the intended meaning or which are grammatically incorrect.
I recommend you to start focusing on the methodology because GMAT is a test of application of concepts. Test makers set a lot of traps in verbal questions by using similar words in the answer choices. To eliminate four choices and choose the right one, you need to use the right methodologies to solve them. If not, there are high chances that you will end up getting stuck between two answer choices.
I can help you how to improve your verbal score by providing you a specific plan but I would require a few more details.
