Hi. I found this site just a little while ago and it's great. I look forward to contributing what I can as the process goes along...
I finished PowerPrep's practice test #1 and scored a 570 (Q 31; V 37) without any studying, test-taking strategy, etc. It was taken completely cold so I could see where I stood and what I need to work on (I took the GRE about five years ago so this isn't totally alien to me. Come to think of it, I'm not really spooked about having to take another test.

The average score for students in the two part-time programs I'm looking at (George Washington and Va Tech) is 600-620 so a little improvement is in order, especially on the math. I can smoke the verbal section (scored 93rd percentile on the GRE with minimal effort) but I am not that mathematically inclined.
With that:
1. How much higher can I expect my score to go with some studying and test-taking strategies? I don't need a 700 but what's realistic?
2. Can anyone suggest some good study guides for the math portion? (Tehe math forum looks like it will be a great help.)

welcome to gmatclub.
you first step should be to study the official guide for gmat review - cover to cover. second, you should practice in sets of 20-30 and then go back and see what problems you did wrong. make a note of them somewhere and go over these problems every day. with time, you will not do these mistakes again.
another good option is to study the problems in the beginner level gmat math section and then move on to the intermediate level. You are always welcome to participate in the math dicussions.
Once you feel confident, start taking practice tests. Always record your errors and studying them.

The error log is an excellent idea. I know geomery and higher algebra is killing me, but knowing the types of questions too would help.
I'll definitely pick up the OG but I'll probably skim the verbal - heretical notion I know but hey I'm an English major. The hard part is the temptation to totally rewrite the sentence phrase questions ... "Geez, they all suck! here's how I'd write it..."
