Do you mean 3.5?

Are you "Indian IT"? if so, you have got to raise the Q score.

Thanks for the response - even I think my quant score could be better.
I took the GMATPreps and my last 2 scores were 700 and 730 (before that 640 and 630) and my quants were pretty good though I was worried about my verbal. I did pace myself ok at the start but towards the middle I got stuck with a few questions, which actually I could have solved faster. Anyways it was one of those days.
Any other advice from anyone else? I could with all and lot more.

You sound like you have a genuine case for retaking the GMAT, go ahead and get a 700+, which should bring you at par with the rest of the applicants from your demographic.
I must say 1.5 as a GPA does not make any sense, are you using some kind of conversion chart?

Tharun,

I am in the same boat. Got 590 and currently preparing to take it again. My practice scores were 670+.

UT-Austin has always been competitive and couple of years back they have reduced the number of FT students admitted from ~ 600 to ~ 300. Went to their info session recently and found that their avg GMAT is 670 and range is 600-740.
I would take the GMAT again and try for a competitive score.
