It doesn't matter a whole lot. For example, if you get a 6.0 on your essays but a 570 on your GMAT, you won't get in to more competitive schools.

Sadly, I speak from experience...retaking and reapplying is fun, isn't it?

i just got a 710 and a 4.0AWA. should i consider retaking to improve the AWA?

I say no. Your AWA score is not horrible. It could be better, but write great essays and make sure they are yours. Don't let people edit style so much so that it's not what or how you would write them. You'll be fine.

I wouldn't take it again. actually, I didn't. I had 700 and 3.5 AWA.
still got into a pretty good school. it also will depend on your application essays.

I'm throwing this question up in the air.

What is better? 670 and a 6.0 AWA

Or 720 and a 4.0 AWA.

I agree with JAllen here. I know people who got into top schools with an AWA below a 5.
