Mate congratulations. Some very insightful comments about priorities and progression and the importance of GMAT. You sound like you have a lot of experiences and a mature perspective on life. You will do well in most places.

Good luck.

(I found out my fiancee is pregnant with our first kid soon after I got my score)

For $250 a pop, I don't think I'll get anymore ROI with this. I could very well get a lower score.
I've learned a few things from my 2007 battle with the GMAT.

1) A test is only a "means to an end". For some people with a 700+ score, they may be set for the next several years in their high paying I-banking jobs. As for me, I may have to hussle more and prove myself in the work place. I believe if I harness all of my other strengths (male modeling skills, seduction skills, drinking skills, gambling skills, and ability to do stand up comedy ), I'll do alright in life.

I'm 29 and I did my undergraduate at UT-Austin Business with a 3.4 gpa
I'm applying to 5 schools whose target score is within 40 pts of my 620.

1) SMU median: 640
2) Rice median: 640
3) University of Calgary median: 625
4) Vanderbilt median: 640
5) Michigan State median: 640
6) UNC median: 660

Are you blaming this on GMAT. Just kidding. you must have been very busy with the prep and let the GUARD go and so made some silly mistakes. Believe me its a great surprise.

Not blaming the news for my performance. The news came after I received my score. Hopefully, I can get into SMU for 2008.

I changed my mind.
I think a 620 is game for SMU or Rice.
I am just going to stick with my applications and move on with my life.
Obsessing over this test makes me lose perspective on life.

I would love to go to Georgetown.
Would a 660 improve my chances?
They would know that I have taken the exam 4 times.

As you have said earlier, GMAT is a means to an end. In my opinion, if you focus on your essays and make them feel that you really want to go to their school, any school is possible. (According to Kellogg's website, 11% of their admitted students scored below 640)

Actually, in my opinion, MBA is a means to an end as well. I had a friend who got a job at Microsoft and he received his MBA from a non top 50 program. He told me that the quality of the job he does is similar to the MBA's from other schools; however, it took him 9 interviews to get the job while it took other candidates with top notch degrees 2 interviews.

I am very certain that the quality and experience received from MBA programs are different (that's why I studied for GMAT and hope to go to a school that I feel is different) but at the end I believe that whatever makes one happy in life should be one's goal not the tools to reach it.

I've always been a great salesman and a networker.
I think I will use this time to leverage that strength.

Thanks.
