I took the gmat today for the first time and scored 640. Q38 V40. My goal was 700 but I am pleased to have a 640 on my first try. My quant score had been in the 42-45 range on
MGMAT and GMAT Prep CAT's. However, I was very nervous and completely lost my focus. I know for a fact I guessed on about 7 in a row and just never recovered. It was a disaster. I spent a good 5 minutes or so on the first question and it took me off my game. After taking the Quant section I left for my 8 minute break and collected myself. I wasn't nervous anymore because I felt like I had already blown it anyway. I went into the verbal with no pressure at all after the quant disaster. I must say, the V40 was higher than any of the CATs I took. Most had been in the 36 area.
I've been studying off and on since March. I think I peaked a few months ago though but never got the courage to take it. I'm thinking of taking a course to help me get the extra 60 points needed for a 700. It will be a heavy lift but I'm willing to work at it.
