Hello,

I'm new to this forum and have recently started preparing for Gmat. Took the first mock test with no real practice and only previous knowledge of a little bit of QA and scored a 400. Would achieving a score of 650-700 be possible with dedicated prep in 6 months time ?

Hi Jajabor,

You can definitely improve your score 650-700. You don't have to take the mock score seriously as it's just an indication of where you stand currently. Use the mock to analyze your weak areas. You can go through the below articles to understand the right way to prepare for GMAT.

Hello Jajabor,

Welcome to the GMAT Club. It is one of the great platforms to get information about the GMAT official test, Study plan, Section wise instructions, etc.

To assist you better, we would request you to write back with the following question:

1.How do you rate yourself in Quant and Verbal?

In a generalized way, to crack GMAT, you need a disciplined study plan, command on basic concepts, exposure to agile approaches, reliable resources, updated comprehensive material and mock tests, and an expert with whom you will be connected throughout your preparations.

You can surely increase your score. You just need to follow a proper study plan.

You may also see to connect with experts online for your preparation.

As a GMAT instructor, I will first recommend taking our Free diagnostic test https://www.mathrevolution.com/diagnostic/dtExamMember and receiving a comprehensive study guide by topic. This test will clearly help you understand your weak areas. There are also many free materials available in the GMAT Club.

Time is precious and unstoppable at the same time. You can schedule a counseling session for 30 mins with one of our experts: https://calendly.com/mathrevolution/1-on-1-session for detailed advice on your study plans.

Hi Jajabor,

Many GMATers are unhappy with their initial practice scores, but you really shouldn't be. That 400 is just a measure of your skills right now - and you'll improve on that result over time as you learn more about the content, Tactics and little 'secrets' of the Exam. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level; raising a 400 to a 650+ will require a great deal of study though - and you will have to focus on learning and practicing the proper Quant and Verbal Tactics. With 6 months of potential study time, you could potentially improve a great deal.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) What study materials do you currently have access to?
2) When you took this initial practice CAT/mock, did you finish all of the sections (or did you run out of time and leave any questions unanswered?)?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi jajabor,

Improvement is definitely possible if you do the prep in the right way. I personally scored 570 in my first GMAT attempt and later improved my score to 720. It took time and there were stages when I felt I cannot do it but I was persistent. I made sure I worked on my weak areas and focused on the process. And make sure you use the right resource which can help you with the concepts, methodology and provide you with standard questions and their detailed solutions.

You can go through my debrief to know a few tips.

Debrief of my journey from 570 to 680 to 720:

Hope it helped!!
