Hello,

I recently wrote my GMAT and scored a 650. I am planning to apply for colleges in Canada and Europe and not aiming for the US at this point.

I have a 9.59/10 GPA in Engineering from a Private University in India. Post that, I have 8 years of experience in Healthcare IT (5 years in Oracle, 2 years International experience in Abu Dhabi, and currently with Deloitte as a Team Lead).

Out of these 8 years, I have 3+ years of people management experience handling team of 10+ associates.

Should I consider writing the GMAT again and apply for R2? Because I don’t want to rush for R1 applications in case the score would hold my applications back.

Thanks!

R1 with less score shouldn't be preferred against R2 with better score. Maybe as you have already prepared for 650 level, get a tutor (Not sponsored idea) and aim for 690-700+

Is your GMAT score in the range of your target schools? Good rule of thumb is at least 10 points above school average for regular and 20-30 points above for over represented candidates.

Although GMAT is not the only deciding factor but is pretty heavy on weight

Yes, if you feel you can do better (with or without preparation) and it is necessary for your desired schools.

R2 will be just fine if you can demonstrably improve your profile (through the GMAT and otherwise) and you are not rushing to complete your applications. There is a quick turnaround between when the applications - including essays - are made public and when they are due. R2 is much more accommodating with time.

Let us know if we can assist in any way.

Hello Aroravivek15,

Hope this finds you well.

An improved score will definitely help especially if you feel you can work towards the same. Applying in R2 will give you a fair amount of time to prepare and sounds like a good idea.

All the best!

Hi Aroravivek15
1) Excellent Acads
2) WE decent for European MBA programs
3) With a 650 however, and your Male, Indian, Engineering Profile, you may have to look at Tier-2 Programs (with a good brand name however). If you can improve your score, and apply in R2 however, certainly your chances at admission AND at scholarship will both be brighter.
4) Whatever the case, assuming that your score won't go way too high, you will need a strong Compelling Application to make it.

That said, there are parts of the application that you can start working on even before you decide which program you plan to target. Happy to help discuss your profile further, and to suggest schools that you can target in the current scenario, without much improvement in your GMAT.
