Hey Congrtas NSentra !!! Good improvement over your previous score. Good that you decided to move on with the next step in the apps process. This sucker can suck the life out of you. I can say you are within a stricking distance of your dream school .
Coming back to your studies , what was your study strategy like for the past month ? I'll be giving it with in a month so need to fine tune my approach as the G-day nears. Thanks.
Hi ivymba, I would be very glad to answer any of your questions as much as I could.
I decided to retake exam because I felt 36 in verbal was lower then my practice gmatPrep and powerPrep. I also think I rushed to much thru verbal on first exam, being completely confused by previous Quant section (I later found that that I got 47 in quant).
So I re-registered the next day to take 2nd exam 30 days later. I purchased OG11, OG11 Math and OG11 verbal, as well as Arco and princeton review 2006 books, manhattan sentence correction book.
I didn't do any of Arco's problems (because I didn't get to it). I read princeton review book and found it to be pretty helpful. I created an excel sheet, where I would keep track of correct and incorrect answers from OG, etc. Basically after doing alot of Verbal questions I started developing sense for what CR and RC questions were looking for and what caveats they might contain. SC questions started becoming more obvious although I still don't think I fully excelled in that area.
I tried to keep up with quant, but I started becoming very tired of all the problem solving, to the point where I lost track of how to solve certain types of problems, strategies, caveats, etc.
I think this definitely resulted in my lower quant score on 2nd exam.
I don't have an answer on how to stay sharp for this, unfortunately.
I knew that some schools that I was looking at would evaluate raw scores from both exams, so I told myself to worry mostly about verbal and make it my priority to improve that score.
I felt bit more relaxed on second exam, because there wasn't weight of uncertainty on my shoulders. I knew that I established a base line and this was just to improve my chances.
I would retake exam just to get over 700 hump, but I am now going to concentrate on similarly challenging task of writing applications.
I hope any of this makes sense, feel free to shoot me any questions about exam, etc.
Good luck!
