A quick debrief for those who are interested:
I took my exam on 4/17, Saturday, and the five days prior to D-Day I was simply just practicing CATs from
MGMAT and GMATPrep. There's really nothing different from what I did since the beginning of the preparation. My CAT were almost always around the 700 mark. I've set my bar pretty high because I'm only interested in the top 20's. I understand that a 660 will probably be able to lift me to the lower end of the top 20 schools; however, I'm devastated because I know I should be able to do better than that.
Books I used:
MGMAT SC
OG11, 12, and also the individual quant and verbal books
Powerscore verbal bible
Past exams and questions ("sets")
(I spent probably 90% of my prep time over verbal, which was always my weakest subject; therefore, I neglected my quant section until the last minute. Be it arrogance, or simply stubborness, I thought I'd do decent on Q)
Test day experience:
I went to my test center two days before my test, just to know exactly where it is. The center was very well-lit and well-organized. The receptionist was an old Italian lady, and boy, she was probably the nicest lady I've ever met. Anyway, I checked in and was able to immediately take the test.
AWA was very typical, and I almost positive that I did well (followed Chineseburned template pretty religiously). After that, I took my break to just use the boy's room. I came back to the room with probably 4 minute left on the break timer, but I decided to just go for it.
The quant section was, for which I thought, typical of what you'd see on GMATPrep. I got only 1 combination problem and it was pretty much just a spinoff of another combination problem on GMATPrep. I did not encounter any probability question. At the end of the quant section, I thought I did decent. Took my break afterwards; ate a Nutri bar. Resumed the test pretty quickly.
I kicked off the verbal section with a SC. I thought I was doing pretty well for the first several questions and lo and behold, a bolded question came on #11. I was happy and nervous, of course. Once I got past that question, I think I just left my guard down and nowhere else did I see a bolded question.
Finished the exam; gotten past the bubble-ins and craps, I put my hand over my eyes after I click "Report My Score"...and I almost cried after the number came out - 660!
I think my biggest problem was that I was too stubborn to realize that I should spend some time on math. On all my CAT I've scored between 44 and 49. Knowing this while going into the testing center, I was hoping that I won't fall to the bottom of my quant spectrum, but I did. My verbal improved from a mere V25 (very beginning) to an official score of V37. I'm perfectly fine with V37, but would hope higher since my V score was actually the section that has been bringing my overall CAT score up. Anyway, I'm going to re-take the exam, hopefully end of May, but this time I'm going to focus a lot of my time on the quant section. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to chime in. THanks for the support, guys.
