Hi All,
Need some advice on the schools i can apply to based on my profile and GMAT score. I am an Indian with a total work experience of 6+ years (4+ in Management Consulting and 2 years prior experience in Industry). I gave my GMAT yesterday and got a score of 670(Q-48,V-34). In the official GMAT exams, i was getting 700-710 but the final score was much below that. Is this score good enough given the number of years of work exp. to get into a good B- school? Can someone please tell me the B-schools i can apply to or should i give the GMAT again? Also, what are the best strategies to raise the sore from 670 to say 740?
Many Thanks!!
You are asking a lot of questions here.
Let me try to answer them one by one:
1. Is the GMAT score sufficient?
I would say that if you have time, retake it. You belong to the most overly representative pool of applicants and the bette you score the better it is
2. B-Schools to apply?
This depends on you. Do you want to apply in India itself or are you consider foreign schools as well. Which industry do you want to be in. Do you want to study in the US, Asia or Europe. Answer to all these questions will help you narrow down your list of schools.
3. How to improve GMAT score?
I see a scope of improvement in both quants and verbal. I would recommend you to go back to your course material/books and revisit the concepts.
You need to build the concepts/fundamentals before you jump in solving the problems. You can do so by choosing one of the following ways:
1. In person classes/private tutoring
2. Online classes
3. Self paced online preparatory course
4. Book heavy approach
Post this, try to find out your weak areas and practice the questions by digging deep:
SC: The questions test various concepts such as S-V agreement, modifiers, parallelism etc. Find out what troubles you.
CR: There might be certain types of questions that are troubling you. May be Assumption, may be conclusion, inference etc.
You need to find that out and then practice them
RC: This again can be drilled down into different types of questions and also different topics. See what questions and topics trouble you the most and then practice accordingly.
Quants: Again try to break the questions in topics such as Algebra, Number system (very important), Geometry, PnC etc.
As an addition, start preparing an
error log and keep a note of all the mistakes you made and the lessons you learnt from the problems. This will ensure you do not make the same mistake again.
Make sure you complete all of the
OG and the Verbal review and if required, you can buy the Question pack1 from mba.com
