Hello Experts!
This afternoon was a nightmare. As evident from the title of this post, things didn't go as I wanted them to.
To provide some context, I gave my first attempt dis Nov scoring: 680(Q49,V34). As I wanted to apply with higher score, I gave another attempt, 31st Dec. I mainly focused on verbal section, during my preparation last month. (Except for the last couple of days when I worked more on quant). I could see the improvement in the SC section during the mocks(~70-90% accuracy). Though, this did not translate into higher verbal score cause of low performance in other sections. The overall verbal scores in mocks (be it the 2 mgmats, 3 veritas, gmat prep ep2 always floated in the 32-36 range). Never lesser than 32!
However, today was a complete disaster. After I completed my Quant(Q-49), I was sure I had performed around the 49 mark and will need 36-38 to get in the 700-720 range. But, the verbal section was a complete disaster.
RC: the first one I got when I was on 6th question. I could not understand the passage clearly and mostly made incorrect choices here. I was discouraged a lot here(spent around 7mins) and may be that took a toll on the entire section.
CRs and SCs:
I felt the questions asked were different in most type (for SCs) and the difficulty level too was higher esp for CR. (may be it can be easy, but looked higher than the medium ones in
OG).
While I am continuing to apply with 680, I would like to retake GMAT and get to 700+.
I would like to your inputs on the following:
1. Right now I am a bit clue less and unable to understand if it was a bad day/the entire approach towards verbal section was flawed. Any pointers based on the score ?
2.Is it possible for someone scoring this low to increase the verbal score to 38/39?
3. If yes, how much effort will it need?( In terms of preparation time)
4.Resources one needs to use? (I had used the Manhattan SC and CR books, the approach in CR didn't help me much, in case of RCs I had solved all the ones in Verbal Review and accuracy used to be around 70-75%. I am not sure how much is sufficient for a good score.
Thanks.
