First of all, I can't thank everyone enough for what a great resource this forum has been.
Wow, what a night! Today was D-Day for me and I scheduled the test for 3:30. I would only recommend this if you can handle your nerves ALL DAY before the test. I have to admit about an hour before the test I started to get pretty anxious and just wanted it to be over.
As the title says I scored a 690, and though my Quant. was pretty weak at 47, I am happy with the score.
Also, I do not recommend following my study plan.
My study plan was as follows:*Purchase OGMAT 4 months before D-Day, thinking I had 5 months to study <-- This is where I stopped doing the right thing.
*Open the book 1 month before D-Day (Obviously a mistake, I thought I had another month before applications were due)
*Take first CAT (GMAT Prep 1) 1 month before GMAT (2/22) to get a baseline [650 Q44 V36]
*Study the hell out of Quant. Seriously. My favorite thing to do (read: most effective) was to open the OGMAT online and have it give me 20 random Quant problems at a time, then after selecting my answer for each one, I would google the question + "gmatclub" and find an explanation (Thanks Bunuel!) This was far more helpful than going through problems on paper and then looking at answers and coming back to them at the end to find out what I did wrong. I did this for 1-4 hours a night during the work week, and another 6 hours or so on the 3 Saturdays that I didn't take a CAT.
*Take second CAT (GMAT Prep 2) the day before GMAT (3/4) [650 Q43 V36]-- I don't recommend this unless you are a really confident person, I was a bit shocked by getting a LOWER Quant score after studying for the past 4 weeks.
*D-Day, garden from 9:30-11:30, shower eat lunch 11:30-1:00, drive over and arrive at 2:30 (for a 3:30 test), study for 30 minutes - I looked over an AWA template I worked on and some probability equations that I couldn't keep in my head. Walk in to take the GMAT at 3:00pm - They let me in about 15 minutes early, so I didn't end up waiting around long.
To let you know, I do well on tests. I am amped up, have a lot of energy to get through, and my focus level is through the roof on test day. I am not surprised that I did better on the real GMAT than the practice exams for this reason. If you are not like this, please get a higher score on the prep than you expect on the actual test.
