Hi Guys,
My first post here and is a disappointing one! I took my GMAT today and it seems my verbal sucks! I need to know some hard truths about my chances of improving my score (if I take the GMAT again within the next 40 days). I cant afford another retake unless it could change something in a major way.
While giving the test, I found verbal just as challenging as Quant in the middle questions, but somehow i managed to get a good quant scores (i was expecting a Q49 honestly) and a full blown disaster as my verbal score (I was expecting atleast 37). Shows how badly I misjudge my mistakes!
Now the main point is that I definitely think my verbal should have been higher (in all 5 MGMATs and GMAT PREPs, I scored a V38) but I've heard that Manhattan verbal scores are inflated and GMAT PREPs questions are no longer a lot different (not necessarily harder, but different). If that is the case, then is it safe to assume I've reached the ceiling of my oh so very limited abilities?
Considering I apply with a 690, what could be my chances in getting through to
1. HEC
2. KELLOG NW
2. TEPPER
3. SAID
4. INSEAD
5. HKUST
6. NUS (I wanted this to be my last resort, but I guess not anymore)
I would mostly want to do an MBA in consulting, marketing or strategy. hence a few of the above would meet my requirements very well
I am giving a brief summary of my profile just to understand if it fits usual intakes
1. Indian/Male/Non-IT work ex of 3 years (worked with Mu Sigma for 2.5 years, working with an analytics firm of 50 people for almost 6 months doing marketing and strategy projects in the capacity of a data scientist/associate)
2. I've graduated in Chemical Engg. with a one integrated course in Msc. Math from BITS PILANI (core member of Mathematics assoc., conducted events in technical fests, organizing committee member of entrepreneurship conferences in college) CGPA of 6.5 / 10 ( had a grading system of A, B, C, D, E)
3. Interned at a major cement plant for six months, where I along with 4 other interns taught local kids
4. At Mu Sigma, worked on strategy projects with a large retailer's VP and Director of Pricing directly. I was on the recruitment panel of the company, Awarded on two separate occasions, nominated for best employee of the quarter, I was a trainer for Stats, SAS and R for almost a year before leaving the firm. Worked in the CSR initiative of the firm but only for the first 6 months with no written record so would omit this. Starting work with a local NGO again
5. At my current firm, involved directly with the marketing managers /Sr. Mangers of a major retailing firm. Plan to get SAS certifications (BASE & ADV) within the next two months. Also, there are possibilities of going onsite for 6-12 months which should add some weight
6. Major traveling enthusiast, I've trekked solo in the Himalayas, North eastern India on separate occasions for weeks
I am in a real pickle here. Could someone please please help me out in any of the three areas (GMAT scores, Schools to target, Profile improvements)???
You all have a good day!
