As a "Gulte" who has lived his entire life in Chennai and whose wife is a 'Tambram', I can say that Gulte is usually fine :) Aurobindo, are you Kannadiga? Or "Gulte"

On a side note: Is "Purple Haze" still alive in B'Lore? Remember the days when we used to make a day trip just to get drunk at that place...sigh good old days. And, oh...is Mt. Carmel still a girls college :D

Ah! You are the right person to ask this. Is 'gulte' derogatory? I always assumed that it was...

It sounds derogatory but I think it is some thing like Tambram for "Tamil brahmin".

If we write "Telugu" in regional script and read it in reverse order, then it becomes 'gulte'

lol...she is not from mt.carmel- but she did go to Stella Maris in Chennai.
