hi lazerbud,

thanks for your kind words!

as far as the quantitative, i saw 2 statistics questions, yes. one very easy and one i'm still not sure i figured out what exactly it was asking.

for the verbal, i don't have any advice for the sc section (i just read the sentence and go with my hunch as to which one "sounds better").

but for the reading comprehension, there are definitely tricks to make it easier. what i do is read the first paragraph of the passage first, and then the first sentence of the next paragraph(s) to see what the text is actually about (without worying about details). then i look at the question and see what i'm looking for. so i'm never actually reading for information but always "looking" for something specific in the text. i don't know if this is the way most people approach it or not, but it is much faster for me (and less tiring) than having to absorb 3 paragraphs of information and then going to answer questions about it.

my timing on the verbal was much better than on the maths. i only had 2 minutes left at the end, but i pretty much spent as much time as i needed on each question, never rushed it. the reading comprehension passages were shorter than i expected, so that's probably why.

when are you taking the gmat lazerbud? what are you aiming for? i wish you good luck! and if you have any tips for quant, let me know!

Hi Toujours28,

Thanks for sharing your methods on RC, I pretty much apply the same technique in SC, ofcourse GMAT Verbal is peculiar in that it consistenly tests the same "idiomatic phrases" "parallelism" etc. Anyways, the SC paragraphs must've been larger than in the OG?

About Quant, with the score that you've achieved, I presume you've got the basics mastered, what you probably need is a good workout on the topics that the OG doesn't cover thoroughly, Perm & comb, std. deviation, I would suggest you pick up a high school Math textbook and cover these topics vigorously and I'm sure you'll notch up a higher score. International students from India and China consistently hit a score of 50 on the GMAT, a good many of them refer to school textbooks and strengthen the basics in the "harder" topics on the GMAT.

I have my test on the 8th of October, I'm just looking to do the best that I can don't really have a score in my mind, I'll take what I get ;)

I tihnk ure onto something it makes sense that OG would aid you in getting a low to mid 700 at best, i think the hard hard 760-800 level questions are kept hidden to keep the integrity of the scores.

But theres prolly some preps out there that focus on hard hard questions, i think manhattan gmat has that for 79$. Those are killlller. They give a free hard hard one daily. U prolly can only get a 760, if u study really hard and memorize how to do the problems in the OG. Just for integrity sakes. If a bunch of people got 800's it wouldn't be able to dstinguish peoples abilities.
