Hi guys,
I've been a long time lurker but this is my first post. I recently wrote the GMAT and unfortunately got a terrible cold the weekend before. Needless to say I didn't achieve the score I know I am capable of and wanted to get your opinion on whether I should re-write it based on my the rest of my application. Any input would be much appreciated!
General: 26 year old, Canadian born Asian Male
GMAT: 700 (Q49/V35/IR 6/AWA 6)
During my practice tests I was consistently scoring in the 750 range (Q49-50/V43-44) following proctored conditions (i.e. full length test, 8 mins breaks, no water or food during the test etc.).
Prior to my test, I got a cold and was pretty much bed-ridden for the days before.
I got pretty flustered during the IR and ran out of time. On the verbal side, I normally was really strong on the CR and RC and made most of my errors on the SC side. However during the actual test I'm fairly certain a lot of my errors were on the CR and RC side because I was really struggling thinking through the answers.
Education: 4.0 GPA from a Top Canadian Engineering Program
Work Experience: I have just over 5 years experience at a large cap Oil and Gas company in Canada. During this time I've worked through a few roles but most recently have assumed a project management role. This entails working closely with functional managers, accountable for the overall program execution of assigned capital programs ($100MM+/yr)
Volunteer Experience: I'm pretty lacking in this department. I recently started volunteering with the local chapter of an engineering society.
School Targets: Harvard, Booth, Stanford, INSEAD or LBS.
I'm hoping to get into a top tier school and would be looking to apply in Round 2. I haven't done much research yet to determine what schools would be the right fit.
I am confident that I could achieve a higher score but I'm not sure if it would be better to focus on the rest of my application at this point. I've also already mentally moved on from the test and would really hate to write it again

.
Also I would love to get people's thoughts on MBA application consultants.
