Hey Guys

I recently took the GMAT and got 700 (Q49, V35). I am an Indian male with work experience in sales & marketing analytics for about 3 years (good acads but not impressive extra-curriculars). I am aiming schools such as - Tepper, Kenan-Flagler, UCLA Anderson, Eli Broad (Michigan). What do you guys think about my chances of getting admitted? Should I re-take the test? I think I can do little better in GMAT but I want to apply in Round 1 to have maximum chances of admission and scholarships.

Thanks
Naval

Naval,

Thank you for your post and congrats on your score so far! Your quant is pretty good, so while you have a nice profile for schools like Kenan-Flagler, Anderson would appreciate a higher score. Plus, given your demographic, having a score in the low 700s even for UNC and Tepper will make a difference vs just 700.

The schools will just look at the highest score if you do take it more than once.

Good luck and reach out if you want to discuss your application strategy: scott@personalmbacoach.com

Best,
Scott

Thanks for your advice. This is very helpful.

I had one question regarding sending the improved score. Do the schools accept/consider the "improved" scores after I have submitted my application?

Thanks again
Naval

While I think most schools do, most admissions people have told me that if you have a good score, focus on other things to build up your experience rather than retaking the test. 700 is plenty good and competitive for top schools.

If you're serious about UNC I would retake as your current score will not stand out especially coming from a competitive applicant pool. School will focus on your best score

Hi Naval,

It’s always good to be around the median GMAT score of your target schools, but in your case you may go ahead with your applications as you aren’t too off from the median of your target schools. Second, you aren’t from a crowded applicant pool of IT.

To your question on sending test score after submitting application, schools rarely allow this. An exception is Stern, which asks you to mention the date of your next test in the optional essay, if you're planning to write it again.

Last, there are plenty of scholarships in R2 as well.
