After viewing many profiles on this forum I see tons of people posting 700+ scores. I'm wondering if 700+ scores are becoming more common as a result of better study materials and prep software or if this forum attracts high scorers and thus over represents the population of people with 700+ scores.
The reason I ask:
I scored 700+ on my GMAT and am considering holding off on applying to schools. As of now my score is very competitive for my target schools. However, I looked over historical data that shows the percentile of my quant and verbal score have decreased over time. I'm just wondering if I hold off with applying will my score carry the same weight in 2 maybe 3 years?

You should be fine. The changes and score inflation are minor over the years. You will lose a percentile or two at most.
The answer to the reasons - it is both but materials are getting better and supposedly the test stays the same, so supposedly scores get inflated.

My thought is that percentile rankings say they are based off scores of the past three (or five?) years. So potentially in three years time percentiles would be based off "the new era" of score performance were more people score really high as a result of great study programs. I guess I'm over thinking this..haha.
