Wanted to share my experience studying for the GMAT Focus with you all - hope it helps someone who is currently still in the prep process!
Background
After approximately 6 months of self study and using some resources I could find online, I gave my first attempt at the exam in April 2025. At the time I felt I had covered the entire syllabus of topics and had even scored well on the Official Mocks 1 & 2, and so it came as a huge shock to me when I saw my final score on the screen - 605 (Q79, V84, D77) - 70th percentile. I was so disappointed and honestly couldn't believe how far off I was from my goal scores.
After taking a few days to review, I knew I could do better and I knew I'd have to do things differently if I wanted a different result. Going through GMATClub for some advice, I found the highly reviewed TTP course and saw all the amazing testimonials students had given (it feels so surreal to be writing this testimonial myself now) the course. Although it seemed pricier than some other courses I took the leap and chose to enrol in Target Test Prep's flexible preparation course, using their accelerated study plan for Quant and DI.
The course is amazing. Truly. Some things that really helped me and I am so thankful for -
1. Study Plan
The first thing that stood out to me was how customisable the study plan was. As someone who works long hours at my job, it was so important I have a study plan that could be customised around how many hours I could devote to GMAT prep on different days of the week. The study plan kept me so consistent and honest as well - I knew what missions I had to complete everyday and I was not scrambling to plan my prep on a daily basis.
2. Quant
TTP is soo comprehensive for your quant prep - you really won't need to look anywhere else. Their resources ensure you build conceptual clarity across all topics and they provide really useful video explanations that walk you through the best ways to attempt even the hardest questions.
3. Error Log and Statistics
The TTP Error log is so well organised - it pushes you to identify and analyse why you got a question wrong and allows you to easily access and review these mistakes down the line. Their analytical tools also help you pin point your weaker areas, and compare how you are doing vs other students when it comes to timing and accuracy.
DI was my weakest section (I struggled so much with both timing and accuracy) and the selection of questions and time management strategies that TTP taught me were critical to success on test day. However for DI, I did use the official question bank on mba.com as well since I needed the extra practice. It has 212 questions in total, and is real gold in terms of data heavy questions that feel exactly comparable to the real test. Another super useful tip that revolutionised my prep was not being scared to modify my strategy to one that suited me the best - I changed my section order, the environment I was giving my mocks in and pre-test routine for Test Day - all of which helped me so much!
Verbal: This was a strong section for me. Some of my favourite resources were the GMAT Daily practice Qs (I used to do these everyday before I went to work), GMAT Club Tests and some great videos from Harsha on the GMATClub Youtube channel.
Test Day and Concluding Thoughts
I took the exam in-person at a test center near me and everything went smoothly: I felt prepared and calm, and did well with time management. The real exam felt very similar to TTP practice, which put me at ease. Honestly, I was in shock and disbelief when I saw my final score of 715 (Q85, V89, D82) and had to recheck to see I wasn't hallucinating that 99th percentile. So thankful to TTP overall - it is a process but if you stick to it and make full use of the platform - it will be extremely rewarding for your GMAT prep.
Advice to everyone who is preparing - don't give up. Some days feel like an uphill battle and there is a lot of frustration and self doubt that can creep in. My mock scores were not linearly improving either - there were ups and downs. But the most important thing was to analyse as much as I possibly could - why I took extra time on some questions, what questions I got wrong and why, was I distracted? Every mistake helps you develop and get better for the next time. You've got this and please reach out, happy to connect and answer any questions!:)
