Hi All,
I took the GMAT for the first time today with about a month of preparation and got a score of 710 (V36/Q49 or V81/Q79%, IR7, expecting AWA to be 5+). I'm wondering if I should retake the exam? I barely had any sleep the night before (exam was 9 am) and had to take an unscheduled restroom break during verbal because I'd been drinking coffee all morning to keep myself awake. Without those factors I think I could have scored perhaps 20 - 30 points higher. But honestly I would rather not have to go through the ordeal again if 710 is enough.
I think my essays and qualifications are fairly strong, although I am a little on the older side (32 at matriculation). I have a solid career progression with a blue chip company. A little lacking on extracurricular activities, but I am hoping my travel (almost 50 countries) and overseas working experience (3+ years in central Asia) will more than make up for it. All in all I really don't think I would need a super high GMAT score to set myself apart, just enough to get me through the door, but I'd like to hear other people's opinions.
I'm applying to the following schools (in order of preference):
INSEAD (target school)
IMD
Cambridge Judge
IE Madrid
HEC Paris

Hey there,
Good news - you don't have to retake the GMAT. A 710 puts you in play for all those programs. As you mentioned, it's your experiences that'll get you in the door. A 710 lets you play at the table and it's a strong score. A 740 would be better but - when isn't it?! So if you want to be done with the GMAT, you can be.
