I agree with whiplash2411!

You can strengthen your apps, 4 on AWA is okay!

I actually agree with whiplash here. I've heard most people say that with an AWA of 4.5 you should be ok. A 4 is somewhat low. And with great essays, perhaps reviewed by a consultant, a discrepancy could occur. If you have the time and want to retake, I'd advise to do so. With another good quant score and your engineering background, schools won't have a problem with your Quant abilities. Where they'll have worries is with your verbal/writing skills.

There was an admission representative that I talked to who was not fully aware there was a essay score on the GMAT. Very few colleges look at your essay score, and as long as the score is not awful then you are fine.

It probably depends on the school. Since the author seems a more quantitative person, I don't presume he is likely too choose a school that requires a good AWA score. Just write perfectly good essays in the applications and everything will be fine :)

I actually scored a 4.0 as well. I could have done better, but I really didn't care about this section. Besides, I was accepted to one of my top choices. Everyone has different experiences and opinions about it, but the AWA just didn't matter that much for me.

Unless the AWA score is below a 4.0, then I wouldn't worry about it - especially with a 710. The verbal and quant sections are so much more important. Just do well on the application essays and you should be fine.

This is a valid use of the optional essay on applications.
