Hi:
Got done.
710 - 94th percentile
M-45 V-38
Looks like verbal killed me here. Honestly, I was disappointed as I had expected higher. But this is what I have now.
My test experience
I took the test in the evening- I am not a morning person.
Center was fine. People there were very nice and made me feel comfortable right away. For blocking out the noise, they gave me ear plugs instead of headphones. I find the ear plugs annoying, but they were better than having nothing. Essay was fine. Took the whole 30 min each to write, read and re-read. Took the 10 min break after that and made a bathroom run. Was back before end of 10 min to start Math. Math was LONG. I guessed the last two as I ran out time. But looks like it pays to spend more time on the initial ones. I was very frazzled by the time math ended and took my second break to drink some soda and re-compose. Then came verbal. I thought verbal was going well- from score, looks like not so. After the test, the score came up. I was not happy with what I got. But happy to be done and leaving.
As for the noteboards, I thought those were fine. Though at one time, it took me 30 seconds to get the attention of the proctor to get new noteboards- which was annoying.
Preparation
I have been preparing for about 4 months. I have a full time job, so I studied whenever I could- basically evenings and weekends. Didn't see my fiance or my friends much as this took most of my free time. (I am so glad he was understanding about this). Did all books- OG, Kaplan 800,
MGMAT books. Also, did practice tests- all Kaplan, all PR, all
MGMAT. Power prep. Except for Kaplan where I was still getting in late 600s towards the end, all others I was getting in 700s by the time I was ready to give the test. Also, participated in forum (though I learnt about this forum late and could not participate as much)
In terms of books, I thought a few
MGMAT were useful- sentence correction, some math.
Now
Thinking if I should re-take. My target school is Harvard. My score isn't spectacular. But other credentials are good. I have a BS and MS in Engineering in US with great GPAs in both, 5+ years work experience with technical work as well as managing projects and managing people. Any comments/suggestions from anyone here? Am I underselling myself? I am not sure what is being looked for.
Looks like the next step is to start the applications. Oh also- get married- my fiance will be glad to have me back now from the GMAT black hole I have been in
BTW- I will be happy to expand on other preparation related stuff if anyone is interested.
