I took my first GMAT today and scored on the the order of 30 percentile lower than I had in practice tests (and should be scoring). I'm targeting top 10 schools or no MBA and am wondering how bad my scores will look. I can retake with more studying since I felt rushed time-wise during the Quant and with the ability to see the score before accepting, there probably isn't harm but I'm still debating.
I'm a Process Engineer in Biotech, with a ChemE B.S. from Stanford - how bad does Q47 (68th percentile!), V40, 710 (92nd) look? Will schools question my math abilities or write it off as a fluke? Worth retaking?

First of all, congrats for your great GMAT score! A 710 is close to most top school´s average and it is a score that I believe is good enough to apply.
On the other hand, as someone who has been in your situation since I had a 46 quant on my first GMAT, I would not say retaking is out of the question, but as you are an Engineer, I don´t think schools will be worried by your quant skills at all. Therefore, you have to really think if the time and effort needed to retake the GMAT are worth it. I would only recomend it if you are sure you can icrease your score and if you really have the time to prepare for it.
