At least when it comes to the M7s, the job of the score is done once it exceeds 705/715. I have seen plenty of 770s being dinged—that's evidence of how the score is not a "be-all, end-all."

The consideration for the high score starts changing when you go down the rankings. This is simply because those schools have a huge incentive to grab a 755/775, etc., because it will help bump up their rankings and hence their reputation. M7s like Wharton don't have such a need.

One benefit of a higher score could be the chance of a scholarship. So if you have the stamina, motivation, and time to squeeze in a re-attempt with the purpose of improving your score by at least 30-40 points, then go for it. Otherwise, it is best that you use the time to start preparing for your applications.

Thank you for the advice. As a follow-up, is there any score that could provide more help than just a so-called" hygiene requirement". For context, my official mock exams were sitting in normally between 755 and 775 or so. I just made a dumb mistake on the math (forgot to flip a fraction that was under a 1) and really screwed up my DI. Thanks again.

Your score is more than good enough. Well done.

Just bear in mind that the score is a hygiene requirement. Your score won't get you rejected. But that's different from getting selected. Work on the applications from hereon.

Best wishes.

Hey everyone, just scored a 715 GMAT FE score (V90/Q86/DI81).

I’m not super familiar with MBA admissions yet and want some honest feedback on if this score is good enough for Wharton? I can’t seem to find an average GMAT FE score for them (most likely due to the switch of GMAT formats I would guess). I am planning on applying R1 and have time until then if I need to take it again, just not sure it’s worth the added time/money to take again.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hi LSATGMATKiller,

Congrats on the great score in your first attemp.

In this post - Average GMAT Focus Scores in Top 20 | 2024 - 2025, you'll find the average and range of GMAT Scores for the Top 20, in GMAT Focus scale.

Thought this might be useful in your decision about whether to retake or not.

While a higher score is always preferable, if you were rejected from Wharton with a 715, it's highly unlikely that your GMAT score was the sole reason

Gratz on the 715. In a sense, you have that score already in the bag regardless. If you are confident you could score significantly higher on a quick retake and it'd bug you if you didn't, the question may be: why not? All the best going forward.

Hi LSATGMATKiller,

From your username, it seems that you are also preparing (or have prepared) for LSAT.

Just curious whether you find your LSAT prep helped you in the GMAT Verbal section?

Your score is strong and should be good enough, especially if the rest of your application is compelling. A 715 (99th percentile) puts you in a highly competitive range. Unless you feel your score is significantly out of line with the rest of your profile, a retake likely isn’t necessary.
