So gave my gmat today and made a 720. While I understand this is not a bad score by any means, I was hoping to break the 750 barrier. I fall into the Indian applicants category and given that I want to apply to schools like Columbia, Chicago, Stern, I am not quite sure how comptitive I am going to be.
Here is my debrief:
I started my prep about 3 months back, as soon as I registered for the test. Started with the OG which I finished in about 3 weeks. I kept an error log so that I could go back and review my mistakes later on.
After my OG, I gave my first CAT, a Kaplan CAT and made a 620. I was aware that Kaplan deflates your score so I took in my stride. Since the start my math I was getting 49+ consistently, but findingit difficult to break the 40 barrier in verbal.
Following this, I kept at it by doing a verbal topic every week and giving a CAT every weekend. I thought I was making good progress as my Kaplan CATs kept getting higher, 630, 640 and 660. I also went through through the MGMAT SC book at this point.
After this I gave a couple of PowerPreps and scored 740 and 750 and then gave my first GmatPrep 1, which gave me a 720. With 1.5 months to go, I increased my verbal workout by getting ontot he 1000SC and 1000CR series. I must have done about 600 qns in the 1000SC and kept an error log here as well. I did about 200 qns in the 1000CR as well.
After this I went to my MGMAT CATs, and was blown away by the quant difficulty. I did all of my MGMAT CATs with a 85 minute quant timer rather than a 75 to compensate for this. My scores in MGMAT were as follows,
MGMAT 1: 700
MGMAT 2: 740
MGMAT 3: 750
MGMAT 4: 770
MGMAT 5: 760
MGMAT 6: 750
With a week to go, I gave my GMATpreps and once again made a 730 on GP1 and 750 on GP2. The breakdowns of these were 50Q and 39-40V.
Final Score: 720 (50Q, 38V)
In the real test, the quant is very very similar to GP1, however I found the verbal a little easier. I guess I must have got some early questions wrong and thus the CAT kept giving my easy questions.
In hindsight, I realize I probably expected a little too much given the MGMAT scores. Note to everyone: MGMAT DOES inflate your verbal scores. I never made below a 40 in any of the verbals, so keep that in mind.
I might in all likelihood give the test again later this year, although I am not entirely sure how to go about it yet. Any ideas? I am concerned that I might have exhausted all of my materials and may not make much of an increase the second time as well.

good score man! even if it's not exactly what you were looking for you can't scoff at a 720!
If you do decide to retake the test I would recommend taking it sooner than later while all the information is fresh in your mind. You sound like you may have just had an off day, so take a month to nail down any problem areas and try again!
