Hi,
I applied this past round to a number of schools ranking from Top 5 to Top 30. At the time that I applied, I only had 2.5 years of work experience and it was at a relatively unknown company. While I was admitted to a few, these were lower ranked programs and I ultimately decided to remain working.
After hearing back and getting rejected from higher rank schools, I decided that it was time to make some career progression. I went and found employment at one of the FAANG tech companies in Silicon Valley and have been working there since. I plan to reapply in a year or two with this new experience under my belt at a much more well-known company.
So on the surface my applicant profile will look like this:
Intern at a smaller company - 3 months
Hired from intern role to full-time Entry-Financial Analyst at the smaller company - 2.5 years
Mid-Financial Analyst at a FAANG company - ~1-3 years
GMAT - 720 - 49Q 40V
GPA - 2.97 - Very rocky undergrad with 1 year of community college thrown in
In my mind:
My career progression looks strong. I was hired from an internship into a full-time role and eventually moved on to a Silicon Valley role. Constant upward mobility, but not as sexy as someone who got into a top company straight out of college.
My GMAT looks strong. 720 was 94th percentile last I checked? 49Q is high enough to give my quant abilities some teeth.
My GPA is crap. Just a piss poor showing.
Are there top schools that I'd stand a chance at? My GMAT is still below the 730 averages of many of the top programs, but strong. My work experience seems strong. But my GPA is this major red flag that I'm unsure that I can shake. Would Hass or UCLA Anderson even entertain a sub 3.0?
I appreciate any input. Thank you!
