I just took the GMAT and got a 720.
On GMATprep I got:
1) 710 (4 weeks before test)
2) 740 (1 week before the test)
3) 760 (A retake of the first test 2 days before the test)
Princeton review scores (all taken between GMATprep test 1 and Gmat test2)
640, 650, 710
My experience:
I really did poorly on the math section of the actual GMAT compared to my practice tests. I'm not sure what happened, because I was really relaxed entering it, but once it got rolling I was thinking more about the time left, the time I was taking on a particular problem and why I didn't know how to do a problem right away, instead of just thinking about the problem at hand. Basically I cracked a bit under the time pressure
On the verbal, I relaxed big time, due to the fact that I felt I had just f*@ked the math section. I sailed through the verbal with 5 mintues left on the last problem... or so I thought. I sat there on the last problem soaking up the glory of whizing through the verbal only two push the next button with 5 seconds left and see..... that I was actually patting myself on the back, sitting on question 40, not 41. So 41 went unanswered
. Pretty stupid.
My final score was:
46 math 80 percentile
44 verbal 97 percentile
720 overall 96 percentile
My feeling is, after seeing those results, that verbal has MUCH more weight on the overall score than math. I think this is due to that fact people prepare far more for the math and people taking the test who have english as a second language will tend to score much lower on verbal than math. Overall this means most people score high on math and low on verbal. Which means a high verbal will improve your overall position a lot. At least those are my thoughts.
Other than that, here is what I took away from it:
1)verbal is very important, practice a lot
2)don't spend all your time on combination, probability, etc, because at most you may get 1 or 2 questions on that. Percents, ratio's, exponents, etc make up a much greater proportion of the difficult math problems
3)Don't think about the time until the last 15 questions. Focusing on the time really messed me up in the math section.
Overall I am pretty happy and can say that GMAT club was a great help.
