Hello!
I've been a member here for over 6 years now, having started my journey back in 2009. Back then, in early 2009, I took the GMAT and got 600 (Q45, V27) a very devastating score. However, Later that year, I retook that exam and got 720 (Q50, V35), AWA 5.0. You can read the full story of my first debrief here:
from-600-to-720-q50-v35-wow-what-a-relief-87285.html#p656075After this, I went to to complete my Master's degree (not MBA) in Europe. However, years went on quickly and soon I discovered that my score had expired. So I returned back to this forum and started training again. I can definitely say that during the past 5 years a lot has changed and the exam became even more competitive!
So, my study plan was simple: I focused on verbal (my weak area) but also paid significant attention to Quant.
I used the following materials
Math Books:
GMATclub Math book - solid collection of the most important basic principles
Manhattan GMAT books - solid as well, but too much time consuming
Manhattan GMAT Advanced Quant - another solid book, but again do it only if you have free time
KAPLAN Premier 2015 - good, but not as good as
Manhattan GMATVerbal Books:
ALL
Manhattan GMAT books related to GMAT verbal - N1 guide for everyone who wants to score high on GMAT
Kaplan Premier 2015 - good, but not as good as
Manhattan GMATPractice Tests
KAPLAN CATs - good tests, but I'd say they usually give you a bit of an inflated score
GMATClub tests - very good resource, must for everyone who wants to score high on Quant
Manhattan GMAT CATs - probably best resource after GMATprep software
GMATPrep official soft
So I spent few months preparing and got 720 (Q50, V37), IR 8 score, AW score 6.0. To my surprise, I scored 8 out of 8 in Integrated Reasoning and 6 out of 6 in Analytical Writing :D
Math section seemed a bit easier than
Manhattan GMAT Quant CAT or GMATClub Quant tests. Verbal part was very similar to
Manhattan GMAT CAT verbal part. So, again GMATClub and
Manhattan GMAT tests are probably the best ones available in the market! So, do not give up, work hard and you will definitely score over 700+!!!
There is one thing that still keeps me wondering: how is this possible:
720 (Q50, V37) - taken in May, 2015
720 (Q50, V35) - taken in Nov, 2009
how can one score higher on verbal and still get the same total score? It's 2 points difference, and in terms of percentile V35 / 75% - > V37 / 83%. That's a significant difference (not just one point that you can ignore).
Thanks.
